When selecting pond pumps you need to consider the height the water must travel though the length of pipe work to the filter. Most pond pumps are named after their maximum flow rate, i.e. the Oasis Aquashift 2000.The maximum flow rate is the pressure of the water leaving the pump with no resistance whereas you need to consider the flow rate as it reaches your pond filter.
Most pond pumps will have a range of flow rates for different heights, so you need to choose a pump which has the flow rate required at the height its pumping up to. If you’re unsure please call us or email one of our team who will be happy to help.
Fountain pumps shoot water upwards into the air and as it lands back into the pond the spray creates a lot of oxygen however if you are planning on keeping fish its worth making sure they have an area of shelter from the spray and space to move around. As well as working the fountain they also are used to run waterfalls or pond bio filter. Garden GB have a wide variety of multifunctional pumps. Fountain pumps normally have sponges in the suction chamber of the pond pump, also they normally prevent oversized solids getting into the pump. Pumps with sponges need to be cleaned regularly, especially in the summer however they are normally located within easy access.
Waterfall pumps
There is not much difference between a fountain pump and a waterfall pump except that the waterfall pump generally need more flow and are therefore much more powerful.
